Proclamation No. 26 by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III | Eid’l Fitr | Ramadan | September 10, 2010 is a Regular Holiday

President Noynoy Aquino III has signed Proclamation No. 26, to formally declare September 10, 2010 as a regular holiday throughout the country. September 10, 2010 is the first day which will mark the end of Eid’l Fitr(Ramadan).

PROCLAMATION NO. 26
DECLARING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2010 AS A REGULAR HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN OBSERVANCE OF EID’L FITR (FEAST OF RAMADHAN)
WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) as a regular holiday throughout the country;
WHEREAS, Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim World for three (3) days after the end of the month of fasting;
WHEREAS, the main date for the celebration of Eid’l Fitr for the year 2010 has been determined to fall on Friday, September 10, 2010;
WHEREAS, to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have full opportunity to join their Muslim brother and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr;
WHEREAS, in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Friday, September 10, 2010 as a regular holiday throughout the country.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virture of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, September 10, 2010 as a regular holiday throughout the country.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
Done in the City of Manila, this 2nd day of September, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Ten.

President Noynoy declared September 10, 2010 a Non-Working Holiday | Eidul Fitr marks end of Ramadan

It will be another long weekend for everyone as Malacañang officially declared Friday, September 10, 2010, a regular holiday as President Noynoy Aquino or PNoy signed Proclamation No. 26.
September 10, 2010, is Eidul Fitr for the Muslim community. Eidul Fitr is the first day that will mark the end of thirty day period of Ramadan. Republic Act No. 9177, provides, that the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, a national holiday for the observance of Eidul Fitr. Former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed into law Republic Act No. 9177 in November 2002.
Eidul Fitr is not a fix holiday since it depends on the Islamic calendar. RA 9177 explains that “the approximate date of these Islamic holidays may be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is putting up a reward of up to $2,000 for information directing to the conviction and arrest of the person(s) responsible for submerging a litter of incapacitated puppies in the video below. Members of 4chan were able to hunt down the owner of the Bosnian YouTube channel that originally uploaded the Girl Throwing Puppies into River video and PETA currently have 6 potential leads, but the personal identity of the girl has yet to be confirmed.
